Weathervane Questions
What is a weathervane made of?
Our weathervanes are made of primarily two materials, copper weathervanes from copper and the aluminum weathervanes from aluminum. The directionals are made of solid brass or aluminum and the assembly rod is made of brass and stainless steel for Large Size Weathervanes and powder coated steel for Standard & Garden Size weathervanes.
Although most can be traditionally mounted using the Adjustable Weathervane Roof Mount, there are many other complementary ways to display your weathervane. We carry a full line of vinyl and wood cupolas which will beautifully display your weathervane and further enhance the look and style of your roof . We also carry mounts, display bases, & garden poles. Most of our weathervanes already include a choice of free mounting whether it be in your garden, roof, deck or wall.
How do I mount my weathervane to my cupola?
What we generally recommend is for you to drill a ¾ “ hole in the top – if you are able to get underneath, you can insert a 2 x 4 around where the mid-section and roof meet. You would need to drill a ¾” hole in the top of the 2 x 4 about ½ way down. Depending upon how tall your cupola is, you might need an extension rod (if the cupola is 30” or higher). The other option is for you to order a 401AL – if the cupola has a copper roof, you would need to put some rubber padding between the paddles of the roof mount and the roof of the cupola to prevent a reaction.
How many finishes are offered for your weathervanes?
Our weathervanes are offered in a range finishes. Blue Verde is an artificial finish, which gives the appearance of aged copper. Polished Copper weathervanes are placed on buffers to give them luster and shine. Our aluminum weathervanes also have a range of finishes. We offer the following finishes on selected aluminum weathervanes: rust, black, gold/bronze and blue verde. Browse our selection of weathervanes to find the right one witht he right finish for you.
How long will the polished finish last?
Within 1 month the copper will lose its shine and start to naturally tarnish. Jet Spray Lacquer, a product that protects and maintains the polished finish of copper and brass can be applied to preserve the look of raw copper. But don't worry as your weathervane starts to age it will still look great, just with a different look.

Yes our weathervanes do require some assembly. Instructions are included. All you need is a screwdriver & the parts simply slide onto the assembly rod and are secured by setscrews. We do suggest a thread-locking adhesive when assembling the rods.
